I did some more anodising in the last few days – I picked some new colours for the spray cans. They are all finished now, but I am not completely happy with the overall colour combination. Here are some pics.
I am just testing the temp of the dyes before I put the pieces into the dyes. It can not rise above 60 degrees.

This is the pieces during the dying process. You can see how the dye is taking.

During the sealing process – you boil in hot water for an hour.

Here is a preview of the complete tagged series. This is just a quick made up version I did to be photographed for all our advertising and promotion for the eleventimestwenty exhibition.

I will be anodising again soon when I get the insides of the toggles so I can drill the outter layers. So you will see some new colours soon.. Hopefully.
Hope you enoy, and can’t wait to see the finished products.

I tried out anodising for the first time today. Here are a few images.

This image, shows the toggles pieces on the jigs. They have to be tight on the jig so they do not fall off.

These are images are colour possiblities – I am still not sure what colours I will be using. You will see in the next few images the 2 I used today.

This is just an image of one part of the process. The pieces are put in caustic soda to strip and clean. You can see if you look closely the bubbles coming off the pieces.

These are the complete, dyed and sealed pieaces. When I picked the yellow, on the sample, it was quite a dirty and ugly colour. Some class mates told me to not use too much, but it actually turned out really golden. Not what I expected but a happy accident all the same.
The darker pieces are midnight blue. the colour actually looked closer to black on the sample piece but it has this really nice purple tinge to it. I wanted purple, but not bright so this again was a happy accident.
The 2 silver on the end are the plain aluminium toggles before they are anodised. I think I am going to leave 4 of these as they are, and not anodise them any colour. I like the look of them. What do you think?

As I am sure you are all curious as to why I asked for responses on the questionnaire I posted. (Thanks again to all those who took the time to give me your answers – I really appreciate it and you might see some of your answers in the completed work)

This is an image of that the neck pieces will look like. They will be on stainless steel cable and I am making toggles.

This is a detail of what the pendant type charm will be like. It is suppose to resemble a spray can. So this is where the colours come in. The toggles are each made out of aluminium and they can then be anodised different colours. So to make this collection fun and interactive – each colour is going to have a meaning – so when potential buyers wish to purchase one they do not necessarily pick one because it is there favourite colour – the meaning behind the colour is what makes you pick it.
If you are wondering where the spray can comes from.. Well in a relating assignment we have to create catwalk pieces and then in response to those create a production line. My catwalk pieces are hoodies – so my inspiration for both the hoodies and the spray can pieces is the whole hippidy hop, graffiti, urban culture. I am also looking for names for the collections so feedback and ideas are always helpful. Let’s brainstorm.

There will also be a bracelet version – for the males out there. In this image there is an example of the aluminium that will be used.
Hope you like – let me know.

I have some questions for everyone – If you are a graffiti artist even better!!! or if you know of one can you pass on these quick questions for me. I am just doing a little research as to what a few colours mean to you.
If you could leave me some answers. You don’t have to respond to every colour – which one stands out to you the most and why? What colour don’t you like? What do you associate with these colours? Give it some thought and I love anything fun and possibly ridiculous! oh, and you must answer the last question.
1. RED?
2. BLACK?
3. GREY?
4. PURPLE?
5. BLUE?
6. GREEN?
7. YELLOW?
8. ORANGE?
9. WHITE?
Last question – How often do you wear a hoodie? What do you think of hoodies?
I’d love to hear some responses – it will help me get awesome marks! k.
